Naturopathic Yoga!

Da da da daaaaah!

Introducing my very own concept – NATUROPATHIC YOGA!

Bringing together two of my very special loves, Naturopathy (Natural Medicine) and Yoga.

I love helping my clients regain and maintain their health through my practice of Naturopathy, and I love leading my students through yoga to find their balance.  Not just on the mat, but mentally, physically and emotionally out of the shala as well .

Combining the two in Naturopathic Yoga I use my knowledge of the human body and of yoga to theme classes based around various systems of the body.   Different symptoms, different asanas (poses).   Yoga helps to bring the entire body and mind into balance, but certain poses can do more for one area of the body than another.

As an example: For the digestive system (my favourite topic) beginning your practice, or your day, with “Apanasana” may help you to find relief from bloating and gas pains.  This pose is known in regular lingo as “Wind Relieving Pose”.  Accurate and straight to the point.

Anxiety: The super simple “Legs against the Wall” pose helps to calm the nervous system.  And quickly.  Just two minutes of this will help you to feel more grounded.  Bringing you out of your head and back down into your body.  I say two minutes but I bet once your legs are up there you are going to want to hang out for longer.

Lower back pain: By working on your core (how often do hear that word spoken during a yoga class?!) you strengthen the muscles of the core (duh), but also of the lower back.  Incorporating asanas such as Downward Facing Dog and Extended Triangle Pose will help to strengthen, stretch and tone all your back muscles.  More yoga, less pain.  In fact, several studies have found that yoga can even surpass usual care for back pain when it comes to improving back function.

Naturopathic Yoga launches at Serenity Eco Lodge Wednesday, the 30th of September at 11:45am.  Classes will begin with a 15 minute presentation/discussion on the topic of the day, followed by a one hour Vinyasa Flow bringing the poses together in a nice smooth sequence.

For those of you not local to the area but still wishing to experience this unique (and awesome just quietly) creation of mine, I am available via another newish concept: Skype Yoga.  All you need is an internet connection, some way to see me (computer, laptop, iPad, smart phone) and some time and space.

I can even tailor a sequence just for you and your current and individual state of health.  My consultations are a thorough way for us both to investigate and find the root cause of the symptoms preventing you from experiencing your optimum state of health and wellbeing.

All bookings are done through my website.  Gosh I love technology.   Mostly.  When it works.  Okay, actually often I don’t…   Sometimes it invokes the need to get those Legs against the Wall and breeeeeathe.   😉
